Daniel Jones vs. Eli Manning.

Eli Manning was the first pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. I was four years old. I barely knew what sports were at that time. At first, I hated football. Obviously that is way different now. I would be watching Phineas and Ferb, or Spongebob, on a Sunday afternoon, and my father would make me watch this. The first team I ever liked was the Mets because I thought the Yankees had miserable colors growing up.
Kurt Warner was the Giants starting quarterback for that season. In the first game, the Giants lost to the Eagles, on the road, 31-17. Eli was brought in in a "we might as well play him" situation. The Giants would go on to have an eight-game losing streak that season. Eli would finish his first season with a 48.2% passer completion rate.
2007 would be a Super Bowl-winning season for Manning, along with 2011. In both those seasons, they would play road games. They would beat the Green Bay Packers in both those seasons. They also played the Patriots in both championships.
In 2007, I remember watching the Superbowl on a small TV, which most certainly does not get cable anymore. I was just happy that my father and brother were happy.
In 2011, I was in my third year of knowing/being interested in what football is. I knew the players. Victor Cruz. Mario Manningham. Hakeem Nicks. My family put together a Super Bowl party at our house. They won, and I have to say, that was a fun event.
The Giants sincerely had many nonsensical seasons after that. Only two of the past seven seasons have been winning seasons.
2015 saw the end of Tom Coughlin's wonderful career as Giants Head Coach. The team had not been to the playoffs since.
In 2016, the Giants did make it to the playoffs. That was because of a powerful receiver corps. Before Odell went crazy and eventually got injured. There was no running back. No offensive line.
2017, everything just exploded. Ben McAdoo was fired towards the end of the season. It was the worst state the Giants were in since the sixteen game schedule came out. No one wanted to play. No-names were lining up in the slot.
In 2018, a Star is Born came out in theaters and in the backfield. Saquon Barkley, Penn State sensation, was now going to stand alongside Eli Manning. Dave Gettleman came in and changed the culture, from his responsibilities, all the way down to the ground concourse custodial staff.
I remember being in the dorm in SUNY Cortland. It was Game 1 against the Jaguars. The first time the Giants opened up at home, in six years. After Corey Coleman fumbled the ball into the hands of Donald Payne, I didn't go on an expletive raid, like I normally do when the Giants do something stupid. I said, "You know what, I'm going to keep my head high. They only lost by five, and the weather was really bad."
Sadly, that would be my attitude for the rest of the season. Only three games that we lost, that was by more than one possession: New Orleans, Philadelphia-Home, and Tennessee. Every other game, it took just one more ounce of effort to win.
Eli Manning is three losses away from having a losing career. This may sound ludicrous, but if he had retired after his Super Bowl win in 2011, he would have had a 69-50 record, instead of 116-114. 57.9% is not Tom Brady, but is certainly better than 50.4%, which is what he has now.
Either the Giants can keep trying every situation to protect Eli or they can start Daniel Jones. Some fans booed as Jones was drafted. People doubted him.
In his first preseason game, he was perfect. Some say he was actually better than Pat Mahomes. Seeing him play in a game against the Patriots. you know what type of clutch quarterback he could be. Danny Dimes can really get this Giants team to where it should be.
I am not trying to disrespect one of the best QBs not only in franchise history, but in league history as well. However, you have to come to terms. Eli is 38 now, he can not move as fast and does not have an offensive line as savvy enough to get the ball down the field. I believe Daniel Jones can complete that.
