The Warriors would win their first game at home on their Boardman Road field. However, not before realizing that their win, came with a game pausing injury, and subtle reminders of how hard it can be to play their upcoming Section 9 opponents.
In what seemed to be a game that was thought to be a blowout, the final score did not reflect that.
Leading 30-6 at halftime, the Warriors would only win by 6, a 44-38 victory.
The game seemed pretty boring until the fourth quarter.
There was a scary moment before the game got close.
At the 7:33 mark of the fourth quarter, Warrior Linebacker Brayden Moore sustained a concussion, critical enough to be taken off the field on a gurney.
Players from Lourdes got in the huddle and prayed the Hail Mary while medical personnel rushed to take care to Moore;
Afterwards, everyone in the stands applauded Moore as he was taken off the field and to MidHudson Hospital.
The Cadets then made the game 44-30, and went out for an onside kick.
As the game resumed, their special teams squad would get lucky and be able to recover the kick due to it bouncing off the hands of a Lourdes player, as it went up in the air, and a Cadet would catch it.
The Cadets would then go down the field and score the touchdown and two point conversion to make the game 44-38.
On the next onside kick however, the Warriors locked in and recovered with only about 90 seconds on the game clock left to win the game.
“It’s tough,” said Head Coach Sean Keenan.
“We won the game.”
“Our goal was to win the game.”
“Did we make mistakes? 100 percent. There’s nothing we can’t learn from.”
“I am impressed with the way they came together, and that the way the maturity level rose was impressive,” said Coach Al Affuso.
Jack Savona is the new starting QB in spread offense.
“We kept our composure when we had the lead, and need to keep the intensity when we have the ball” he said.
Star player Dane Bryan agreed with his coaches that the team has a lot to improve.
“We got a lot of young guys. Stuff like this is expected. It’s not our standard, or the Lourdes standard,” said Bryan.
“We obviously want to play at our best.”
We missed tackles and missed coverages. It’s nothing we can’t fix at peacetime. Going into Monroe Woodbury, we have to practice and be confident.”
“At the end of the day, a win is a win,” he said, “and we got to rest up and stay healthy.
